Delaware education majors: Apply now for the Christopher K. Smith Memorial Future Teacher Scholarship

The Christopher K. Smith Memorial Future Teacher Scholarships are $4,000 scholarships, considered each spring for outstanding Delaware public school seniors who are enrolled in a college of education and who plan to pursue a career in education. These scholarships are administered by the DSEA Scholarship Task Force. They are given in memory of Christopher K. Smith, a social studies teacher in the Colonial School District, advocate for students and members and NEA director for Delaware.

Attention student leaders! Disney Friends for Change grant deadline is February 6

Youth Service America and Disney Friends for Change are offering young change-makers an opportunity to receive a $500 grant to help make a lasting, positive change in the world. Applicants leading high-impact and/or large-scale projects may also request an additional $500 grant (up to $1,000, total) to support their work. Scholastic MLK Day Student Art Contest for grades K-12: “What are you doing for others?”

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, Scholastic is sponsoring a Student Art Contest. The Challenge? Create a poster that inspires others to serve and answers Dr. King’s question, “What are you doing for others?” for a chance to win a tablet.

All entries must showcase a creative, artistic interpretation of “The Challenge,” an inspirational message, calling on young people to engage in service, originality, and technical skill.

  • Posters must be no larger than 11″ x 17″
  • Any artistic medium may be used
