How do Delaware Statewide Assessment numbers affect your child?

If your school is characterized as underperforming, this may have serious negative consequences for your child. According to Education Week underperforming schools, “…often have limited resources and insufficient facilities and supplies, and are able to employ fewer well-qualified teachers than other schools do. Many low-performing schools face overcrowding and student-discipline problems.”

Individualized attention and academic success are inextricably entwined.  So, it’s not surprising that “individualized attention” was cited as one of the Top 5 Reasons Parents Choose a Private School, according to a recent study. In fact a whopping 39% said individualized attention was a deciding factor when selecting a school.

And, research bears out this validity of this choice. According to a recent study conducted by the Center for Public Education:

  • Smaller classes in the early grades (K-3) can boost student academic achievement;
  • Minority and low-income students show even greater gains when placed in small classes in the primary grades;
  • Supports, such as professional development for teachers and a rigorous curriculum, enhance the effect of reduced class size on academic achievement.
