A State-Approved Alternative School with Customized Curriculum
Contact: Beverly Stewart, M.Ed. 302-594-0754
Wilmington, Delaware – Back to Basics Learning Dynamics, Inc. has developed The Bridge Program -- a state-approved alternative schooling option for Delaware students of all ages. The program provides a fulltime curriculum of math, English/language arts, social studies, and science. Students also choose from electives such as a foreign language, art, critical thinking, study skills, computer literacy, marine biology, and more.
“Although Back to Basics has offered alternative instruction for almost 21 years, the former ‘homeschooling’ label was often confusing to parents searching for an individualized alternative to traditional schooling,” explains Back to Basics Director Beverly Stewart. “We’ve taken the ‘home’ out of homeschooling -- providing students with a full program at our Educational Center. We’ve also reformatted and expanded the program.”
The Bridge Program now suits the needs of a wide variety of students. And because the State of Delaware has approved the firm, graduating seniors receive regular high school credits and are qualified to enroll in college. “Whatever the age, The Bridge Program is designed to help children through the transitions of life,” says Stewart.
This state-approved program differs from a traditional school in three important ways. First, instruction and curriculum are personalized for each student. “A crucial part of the program is determining a student’s strengths and non-strengths,” explains Stewart. Professional, degreed instructors work as a team with students to help them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
Second, the program provides important one-on-one instruction. “Individual attention is crucial to the success of our students,” says Stewart. In addition to one-on-one time with instructors, the program also includes cooperative group interaction in multi-age settings.
Third, because it is customized, the curriculum is challenging and academically stimulating for each student. Thematic units are integrated to ensure that students make connections across the curriculum. Interdependence is emphasized. Through use of current events, students are kept aware of the world outside of school, and the vital part they play in their community. And field trips are also incorporated each year.
“Our mission, which is prominently displayed in our lobby as a constant reminder, is to educate and build self-esteem in children and adults to make a difference in their lives,” says Stewart. “We are really in the business of helping students succeed.”
In addition to providing a state-approved alternative school through The Bridge Program, Back to Basics Learning Dynamics, Inc. offers one-on-one tutoring in over 50 subjects for students aged pre-K – college, and employs over 75 professional, degreed tutors and instructors. As well, the firm offers corporate education and professional development to adults in subjects such as public speaking, English as a Second Language, and over a dozen foreign languages. For over 20 years, Back to Basics has served the diverse educational needs of 9,000+ students in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
