5th Annual Teacher Education Scholarship Awarded by
Back to Basics Learning Dynamics Inc.

    Contact: Beverly Stewart, M.Ed. 302-594-0754

Wilmington, Delaware -- Back to Basics Learning Dynamics, Inc., Delaware's largest independently operated tutoring and instruction facility, recently presented Michelle Filling with its 5th Annual Teacher Education Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually to a Miss Delaware contestant who is pursuing either an undergraduate or graduate degree in education. The award is administrated by the Miss Delaware Scholarship Organization.

This year's winner, Michelle Lynn Filling, Miss Eastern Shore 2004, is a 24-year-old Newark resident and a teacher of undergraduate English classes at the University of Delaware. Filling received a Bachelor's degree in English Education from West Chester University in May 2002 and a Master's degree in English from the University of Delaware in May 2004. Currently Filling is enrolled in the English Ph.D. program at the University of Delaware.

"It is tremendously gratifying to present this award to Michelle," says Back to Basics' president and director Beverly Stewart. "Her obvious enthusiasm and passion for education mirror my own. And her commitment to her platform of Service Learning: Teaching Through Volunteerism is truly an inspiration."

Stewart believes strongly in giving back to her community and takes a hands-on approach. In addition to founding the annual Teacher Education Scholarship, she has personally tutored children at The Debnam House in Wilmington and served as a mentor. She is also a volunteer reader for pre-school aged children through the Read-Aloud Delaware program. This allows her to take off her “administrator’s hat” and get personally involved with the children. In 1996, she was a founding Board Member of the WWB Foundation, Inc., and now serves as Director Emeritus This charitable foundation awards Fresh Start Scholarships to women seeking to improve their lifestyles and opportunities by returning to school.

Stewart's firm, Back to Basics Learning Dynamics, Inc. of Wilmington, Delaware was founded in 1985. The firm employs over 120 professional, degreed tutors, offers instruction in over 50 subjects, and has served the varied educational needs of over 8,000 students in the tri-state area.
