Learn About Our Private School...Yes, Our PRIVATE School
The first marking period or first trimester
of the school year is over or soon will be. Your child's
performance isn't what you expected. Is it possible
that a traditional school isn't the best setting for
him/her right now? Sure, but what other options are
there? Don't
despair, you do have choices. According to a
Department of Education Enrollment report, issued by
the State of Delaware in 2006-2007, 18.5% of all
students attended nonpublic schools. This includes
religious-affiliated and independent schools. Let's
look at three types
of schools, as defined by Answers.com:
- Alternative-a school that is nontraditional, especially
in educational ideas, methods of teaching or
curriculum
- Homeschool-an educational program outside of
established schools, especially in the
home
- Private-a
secondary or elementary school run and supported by
private individuals or a corporation rather than by a
government or public agency
Back to Basics Learning Dynamics, Inc.'s
private school combines qualities from all three of
these school types. With regards to alternative, our
method of teaching and curriculum are unique. Our
teaching is done 1-on-1
instead of in the context of a large classroom
population. While following required standards,
curriculum for each student is based on his or her
individual needs and levels. In addition, students are
taught and assessed in ways they can be successful.
We incorporate
homeschool ideology in that we assist parents in
educating their own children by offering full or
supplemental schooling options. Homeschool
parents can choose to have Back to Basics teach their
children the core subjects plus electives or any
combination thereof.
As a private school, we are
run, supported and backed by a corporation as
opposed to a government agency. Our 1-on-1 setting
provides the atmosphere of a private school with low
enrollment and individual attention.
Whatever
reason brings you to a crossroad regarding your
child's future education, we can help. Call Back to
Basics now and speak with our president/director
Beverly Stewart. You can arrange a meeting with
Beverly and your family to see if our private school is
right for you!

Struggles of Students in a Traditional Classroom
There can be several reasons why students struggle
in the traditional classroom setting. Here are just a
few.
Pupils sit at individual desks, often
in rows and
listen to a teacher lecture. There is very little
interaction this way.
When students are asked questions by the
teacher, the same kids tend to raise their hands,
leaving others excluded.
It is very rare that students ask questions on their
own.
When non-lecture work time is allotted, interaction
between students is often not related to the current
work.
Some students will finish lessons early and
engage in non-school activities while others will
struggle to even finish the assignment given.
If your child doesn't seem to be
performing to the best of his ability, it may be time to
look at different educational options. Give your child
the tools he needs to make his future a successful
one!
Quote of the
month: "Learning is not
attained
by chance. It must be sought for with ardor and
attended to with diligence."-Abigail Adams

| Student Showcase on...Carolyn |
| |
This month we feature Carolyn in our student
showcase. Carolyn is a 10th grade private school
student here at Back to Basics and is attending for her
second consecutive year. She said learning is fun and
the 1-on-1 instruction really makes a difference.
Carolyn has seen a change in her performance since
being at Back to Basics' private school. She said her
grades have definitely improved and are the result of
the individual attention she receives.
When
she is not in school or doing homework, Carolyn loves
playing basketball for her parish high school team.
She also likes working on the computer and using it
for recreation as well. Keep up the good work
Carolyn,
and we are proud of your success at Back to Basics!
