Early Action vs. Early Decision
The start of a new school year
brings many adjustments and challenges,
especially for high school seniors. They have
the added responsibility of deciding about their
upcoming future. For many, this means a
college education which in turn means college
applications. Timing is important for meeting
deadlines. Different colleges and universities
have different admissions processes. If your
senior would like to apply and have a decision
made before the typical spring notifications,
there are a couple of options. But be advised.
It is important to understand the regulations
that accompany each.
Two of the
early
application procedures available are early
action and early decision. Here are some of
the important features of both.
EARLY ACTION-With early action, if you are
accepted to a college, you can accept
immediately or wait until the spring. You may
also apply to other colleges using early action.
This is NOT a binding contract.
EARLY DECISION-With early decision, you agree to
go to this particular college if accepted and if
its financial aid package is adequate. You may
not apply to other colleges using early
decision, however you may apply via the
regular application process. If you are accepted
to your first choice school early, you are
required to withdraw any other applications
you may have submitted. This IS a binding
contract.
No matter what process you
choose for admission, whether it's one
mentioned above or rolling or regular
admission, an online or hard copy application
will be required. Many of these include essays.
This is the one section of the application which
is usually under your control. Make it the best
it can be. Back to Basics can assist with organizing
your material, helping you determine what and how to
write your essay, and proofreading your final
draft for submission. Let us help you get
acceptance into the school of your choice.

| Student Showcase...Lizzie M. |
| |
Our "Back to School" student showcase
features Lizzie M. Lizzie is beginning her
sophomore year in college and has been
coming to Back to Basics off and on for about
four years.
Lizzie keeps returning because she
loves the 1-on-1 instruction. She said it's the
best way for her to learn. "The tutors
are very nice and they know you by
name."
Lizzie has noticed
changes in herself as a result of her tutoring.
The major one is the amount of self
confidence she has aquired. She has
improved her ability to ask questions and
realizes even the brightest of students do
so.
When away from academic
settings, Lizzie enjoys creative
writing. In fact, she is the editor of her
university newspaper! She also likes acting
and drama. Lizzie didn't hesitate when asked if
she would recommend us to others. She said
yes and mentioned that she already has told
other people.
In closing, Lizzie asked
if I would please pass a message along to the
tutor she had over the summer to help her with
a Chem class. She said, "Please tell him I aced
my final and got a B+ for the course overall."
That about says it all! Thanks Lizzie, for your
continued trust and confidence in Back to
Basics.
