Student Showcase on...The Class of 2011!

Private School-The Right Choice
student

When your child needs an option to public school or the traditional classroom setting, the decision can be challenging. Enter private schools. Private schools usually offer smaller class sizes (even classes of one, like ours!) and a very different environment for learning, which can be beneficial for your child. Here are some private school statistics from the latest biennial survey conducted by the US Census Bureau:

  • There were 33,366 private elementary and secondary schools, enrolling over 4 million students!

  • Ninety-six percent of all privates schools were coeducational; 2 percent were all girls or all boys respectively

  • Average private school size was approximately 141 students, differing by instructional level. Secondary had 283, elementary had 106 and those spanning both levels had 180 students.

  • Ninety-eight percent of 12th grade students enrolled in private schools around October of the school year graduated by the following fall.

  • Of the over 308,000 students who graduated, over 64 percent attended a 4-year college the following fall.

These statistics show that more and more families are considering and choosing private schools for their educational needs. The performance results of students support their reason why.

If you or someone you know is looking for private school options, consider Back to Basics' Private School. Our 1-on-1 instruction allows for curriculum that fits your child's exact needs. Graduation Day!

Did you know that Back to Basics Learning Dynamics operates a state-approved, K-12 Private School? On June 3, 2011, the school made history! On that evening, a record-setting eight seniors graduated from Back to Basics' Private School. One female and seven male students, representing the Class of 2011, entered to the traditional Pomp and Circumstance. Approximately 75 people were in attendance, including family, friends and staff.

Each graduate was individually recognized by President/Director Beverly Stewart M. Ed. and Assistant Director Jeanine Stidham. The students then each gave a short speech and presented their mothers with pink roses. Later, members of the audience were invited to share their thoughts about their child's education and many heartfelt, touching, sincere feelings were expressed

Underclassmen in the Private School were also recognized and obtained certificates of completion. Light refreshments were served at the end of the ceremony. It was a very proud evening for all those who participated! Back to Basics enrolls up to 20 students per year in its Private School. Please call 594-0754 for details.

Dr. Dennis Burke is in our June tutor spotlight. Dennis will be with Back to Basics nine years come this August. He holds three degrees: Bachelors, Masters, and a Doctorate in Hebrew language and Literature. Dennis tutors students in grade six up through adult. His subject areas include history, geography and social studies, basic math, bible, all aspects of English and language arts, literature, French and German I and II, Hebrew, guitar and SAT and high school entrance exam test prep.

Dr. Burke's role as an instructor is not limited to Back to Basics. He is also a professor at Wesley College and Delaware State University. When he's not in the classroom, Dennis likes to follow some of the Division II sports teams on which his students play. They include basketball, soccer, softball and lacrosse.

In his spare time, which Dennis admits there isn't much of, he likes to play guitar. He is the owner of approximately six of these stringed instruments. With the diversity of his subjects and ability to relate well to his students, Dr. Burke is a wonderful asset to the Back to Basics team!
