Mark enjoys going to concerts in his free time. Now that the warmer weather is upon us, he also likes being at the beach. Mark is originally from South Jersey and then resided in PA while getting his undergraduate degree. He now calls Delaware home and is a newlywed of two months. In fact, Mark and Jayme’s wedding was featured on the June 13th episode of “My Fair Wedding” on Women’s Entertainment TV!

Both Mark and his wife are very commited to furthering their education. Mark is in his second year of a master’s program at St. Joseph’s University. Jayme is pursuing her Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of DE.

MATH -pick a sports team to follow and chart their stats; keep a thermometer outside and track the temperature; do some cooking and measure ingredients

WRITING – make a calendar and draw pictures on it and list daily events; start a scrapbook and put small descriptions under the photos; write letters to a child at camp and have them write back

SOCIAL STUDIES -talk to mature residents in the neighborhood and compare notes from the past to now; draw a map of places for an upcoming vacation and color in the states as you see their “Welcome To…” signs; research different countries then visit an ethnic grocery related to the same place and try its food

READING – set an example and let your child see YOU reading; join a summer reading program at the local library; have an older sibling read aloud to younger ones

Much concrete action had been taken on the states’ parts in competing for this grant. One notable reform by Delaware was that it aligned its academic standards with curriculum, teacher training and testing. These revisions are not cure-alls; the goal is challenging. But it’s certainly a step in the right direction.

Round II selection for remaining grant monies will take place this fall and could see as many as 15 states competing for funds.

Your student will learn crucial skills like time management, goal setting, learning styles, organization, note taking, outlining, reading for meaning, memory techniques, test taking strategies, and test preparation. This small group workshop helps students study effectively during the entire school year.

Each workshop runs Monday through Friday for 2 weeks, 1.5 hours per day for a total of 15 hours. There will be a middle school and high school class offered for each time slot.

Margie instructs grades 5-12 in Algebra I & II, basic and consumer math, Fluid Mechanics, mechanical engineering, physical science and Pre-Algebra. She also tutors reading fro grades 4-6.

When Margie isn’t teaching, she likes to play tennis, make jewelry, (especially beaded pieces) and do almost anything craft-related. She enjoys scrapbooking and making cards as well.

Margie has lived coast to coast- literally. Originally from Los Angeles, she has resided in NY and FL. Margie now makes her home in Delaware, where she has actually lived the longest, approximately 12 years now. She makes her home in the Newark area and has 2 children, a tween and a teen!
