Where do you start? Keep your child structured by keeping to a schedule, even though it’s summer. Following are some subject-specific suggestions for your child to make learning enjoyable and fun:

MATH -pick a sports team to follow and chart their stats; keep a thermometer outside and track the temperature; do some cooking and measure ingredients

SOCIAL STUDIES -talk to mature residents in the neighborhood and compare notes from the past to now; draw a map of places for an upcoming vacation and color in the states as you see their “Welcome To…” signs; research different countries then visit an ethnic grocery related to the same place and try its food

READING – set an example and let your child see YOU reading; join a summer reading program at the local library; have an older sibling read aloud to younger ones

Students in grades 8-10 can stretch and tone their mental muscles this summer with Back to Basics. New for 2010-Summer Recreational Mathercise!

Studies have shown that KIPP and Asian schools yield higher math scores than traditional American schools. Is it because these students are learning MORE than their American counterparts? No! It is because they regress LESS over the summer months. Close the gap with Summer Mathercise.

In this 10 hour course, students will improve problem-solving skills, refresh and reinforce computational basics before the next school year, gain confidence and bring fun puzzles and brain- teasers home to the family. Students will work together to brainstorm ideas and then test their approach. There are two convenient sessions, one in July and one in August.

Call today or visit our website under current classes for more information on this course and all our summer offerings! 302-594-0754 or www.backtobasicslearning.com
