Back to Basics offers classes and workshops throughout the year in addition to the individual tutoring which
is offered for remedial, enrichment or maintenance needs.
We limit the enrollment for workshops so students get the attention they need. Be sure to sign up early
because sometimes the classes and workshops sell out.

Summer Study Skills Workshop
Learn time management, learning styles, organization, notetaking, outlining, reading for meaning, memory techniques, test-taking strategies and test preparation. This workshop helps students prepare for the upcoming school year by learning to study efficiently and effectively. Each student will receive a study skills book and will make a notebook for future reference during the school year. Grades 5th-12th
Each workshop runs M-R for 2 weeks, 1.5 hours each day (12 hours). Morning class 9:30-11:00a.m. Evening class 6:00-7:30p.m.

Summer SAT Preparation
In these comprehensive classes students will learn strategies, timing techniques, and specific content (critical reading, writing and math). They will take and review several practice tests. Pre-Algebra Course
This course is crucial to prepare students who are moving from basic math to Algebra I. The instructor will teach and review fundamental math skills that are vital to success in Algebra I. Essay Writing
This workshop will cover the fundamental skills of writing. Students will have the opportunity to improve their writing style by learning how to write strong main ideas and supporting details, use descriptive language, and write powerful conclusions. Summer Reading List
Do you spend your summer reminding your student to finish their required summer reading? If so, let Back to Basics help. Our experienced instructors will work one-on-one with your student to read, comprehend and retain their summer material. These sessions will give them the knowledge and confidence to carry out the required assignments related to reading, such as reports, projects and tests.
Summer Math Program
Summer is the perfect time to build and strengthen mathematics skills for the upcoming school year. Your student will work one-on-one with an experienced instructor to review and learn concepts and create fun ways to remember them. Each session is tailored to the individual student to meet their needs, interests and level of background knowledge and learning style. Homework will be given to reinforce the material learned during these interactive sessions.

Mad Science Camp Being Held at Back to Basics
Back to Basics has arranged with Mad Science to provide a Mad Science Specialty Camp for students 7 to 12 years of age. Join us for a week of fun with Red Hot Robots. Learn the uses of robots in our world. Spend time playing with super-cool red-hot robots. Use your skills to build your very own working robot to take home to "live" with you.

Classes For Newark Charter School Students Only
Back to Basics is offering an after school Homework Help Program and Study Skills classes to students in grades five through eight who attend Newark Charter School. During the Homework Help sessions, students will be assisted in their homework assignments with emphasis on trouble areas. The Study Skills classes will help students get on track academically and build confidence by learning to study efficiently and effectively.

High School Entrance Exam Preparation Courses
In these courses, students will work with our degreed and experienced instructors who will prepare them for the High School Entrance Exam being given on December 6, 2008. Students will learn strategies, verbal and math content, timing techniques, and will perform practice tests. Since 1985, Back to Basics instructors have helped students increase confidence and skills in order to gain acceptance into their high school of choice.
