Statewide – This September marks the 25th anniversary of Back to Basics Learning Dynamics, Inc., the Wilmington, Delaware-based education conglomerate. Back to Basics was founded in 1985 as a tutoring service specializing in one-on-one instruction, and quickly gained a reputation for excellence and dedication to its students’ success.

“It seems incredible that 25 years have passed since Back to Basics accepted its first student at my kitchen table,” says the firm’s founder Beverly Stewart, M.Ed. “Over the years, we have been privileged to help over 11,500 students achieve their individual educational goals. That’s truly something to celebrate.”

The company now has three distinct units, which address the diverse needs of students – aged 3 to 103. First, one-on-one tutoring remains the cornerstone of the business. Back to Basics has grown to include over 90 professional, degreed tutors and instructors and offers one-on-one instruction in over 60 subjects – from Preschool Readiness, to Italian, to Trigonometry, to Biology, and more. In addition to pre-K – college-aged students, Back to Basics addresses the diverse educational needs of adults, as well, in areas such as GED and ASVAB preparation, and English as a Second Language. Next, the company has expanded in response to the changing landscape of education in the tri-state area. Back to Basics now provides a state-approved, full-time school, offering four core curriculum areas of math, English/language arts, social studies and science. Electives in the private elementary, middle and high school include foreign languages such as Japanese, German, Spanish, and French, as well as art, business, sociology, psychology, computer literacy, photography and many other subjects. School is conducted at the Back to Basics Educational Center in Wilmington and all courses are taught one-on-one.

“The Back to Basics Private School was a natural outgrowth of our ongoing, positive relationship with students in a 1-on-1 environment. We fill a niche, when other academic environments are not working,” explains Stewart. “The Back to Basics Private School provides complete individualization in terms of teaching to the student’s learning style. Students stay for one to three consecutive years, at which time they merge into a more traditional school setting or graduate. All of our students then go on to college or immediately into rewarding careers.”

Finally, Back to Basics Learning Dynamics, Inc. is a Delaware Department of Education state-certified Private Business and Trade School. A variety of essential business and trade courses are offered as part of the curriculum with specialized, one-on-one instruction to adult students. These courses are invaluable for students who hope to become gainfully employed or continue their education.
